Mark Peters is the Cantor at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Monett, Missouri. His musical training began at an early age and cumulated with training on the organ, which he pursued in studies at Concordia University-River Forest, Illinois (now Concordia University-Chicago).
On the organ, he has studied with Scott Hyslop, William Kuhn, and Steven Wente. He has also taken master classes with Martin Jean and Gerre Hancock. His work at Concordia included studies in organ, church music, composition, voice, and bassoon. After two full recitals on organ and bassoon and several recitals featuring his compositions, he graduated and received a call to serve at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Staten Island, NY, where he served as their Minister of Music for two years. In the summer of 2007, Mark was called to serve as Cantor at St. John’s, Monett. He fulfills this responsibility by being organist for worship, leading the Adult, Handbell and Handchime choirs and by promoting liturgical and spiritual growth through music for the congregation of St. John’s.
He shares his passion of music together with his wife Kathryn, who has previously taught school music to grades Pre Kindegarten-8 at several different schools and who now works at home. She is currently directing St. John’s Youth Choir and teaching voice lessons. They have recently had their first child, Audrey, in September of 2007.
